Great honor for the southern canton: Ticino is the world’s #1 wellness destination

Ticino is very trendy. At least, that’s the conclusion of the jury of the “Travelbook Award”, an award given by Germany’s largest online travel guide. It was named the world’s most popular travel destinations for the second time. And lo and behold, Ticino ranks first in the healthy living category.

“The Mediterranean climate corresponds to an incredible floral display,” enthuses the Travelbook jury. Ticino is the city with the most sunshine in Switzerland. “The Ticino region, with its clear lakes such as Lake Maggiore or Lake Lugano, reflected in the green mountains, and lively cities such as Bellinzona, Locarno, Ascona or Lugano, is perfect for a healthy holiday.”

Ticino won against Bali

According to the jury, Ticino is more expensive than other regions. However, the southern canton stood out from the competition, among other things, with good hygiene conditions in the hotel industry. Things are also quieter here than at Lake Garda in Italy.

In addition to Ticino, the Indonesian island of Bali, Germany’s Lake Tegernsee, the southern Finnish region and Kerala in India were nominated in the wellness category.

Travelbook judges chose the Big Island of Hawaii as the best destination for adventure holidays, as well as the best wellness destination. Colombia’s port city Cartagena was chosen as the best cultural city.
