Holcim goes to the cash register in the USA! The cement company has to pay $778 million for crimes committed by the French group Lafarge. The reason is the agreements with ISIS in Syria in 2013 and 2014. Holcim reached an agreement with the US judicial authorities on the penalty.
Accusation: Lafarge and Syrian company Lafarge Cement Syria (LCS) were convicted in a collusion case to provide financial support to organizations classified as terrorists in Syria, writes Holcim. The activities took place between August 2013 and October 2014. The LCS had already ceased operations in Syria at that time.
Not including Holcim himself
Meanwhile, US judicial authorities stated in their decisions that Holcim was not involved in controversial activities in Syria. The official pointed out that Holcim has an extensive compliance program and an independent compliance monitor is not necessary, continues Holcim. (pbe)
