UBS arrived at his luxury hotel in Paradeplatz as if he had fathered a child with a virgin. Savoy Hotel Baur en Ville was owned by Credit Suisse for a long time. After the forced merger with UBS, the business fell into their hands. The plan was actually to sell the hotel’s pearl in a prime location. Credit Suisse wanted to leave the luxury hotel before its merger with UBS. He was looking for a strong buyer. But it was not found.

530 million francs were requested. This has apparently deterred even some large, financially strong hotel groups. That’s why the prestigious building in the center of Zurich is now definitely going to UBS. It is currently undergoing extensive renovations.

It became clear on Monday: The luxury hotel in the middle of Zurich city is scheduled to reopen next spring. A spokesperson said this. The work is going well. “Mandarin Oriental Savoy sets new standards in the Swiss luxury hotel industry, combining modern design with historic charm,” he promises.

The first grand hotel in the city of Zurich

Hong Kong’s Mandarin Oriental hotel group is one of the world’s classiest hotel chains. It operates 40 five-star hotels worldwide. Hotel Savoy in Zurich has been closed since the beginning of 2023 for extensive renovations. Interior work is being carried out according to the plans of Parisian interior designer Tristan Auer (51).

The Savoy is currently accepting reservations for March 1, 2024. The price per night for a double room is 750 francs.

104 rooms and suites

Most recently, the Savoy Hotel Baur en Ville had 104 rooms and suites, as well as several function rooms used primarily for Credit Suisse meetings. There will be 80 more rooms and suites when it reopens in 2024. The needs of wealthy customers have changed. They want bigger rooms.

Baur en Ville was opened as the first grand hotel in the city of Zurich on 24 December 1838 by Johannes Baur, a journeyman baker from Vorarlberg. After renovations in 1857 and 1907, the hotel had a total of 170 rooms when it reopened in June 1908.
