Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère has been welcoming guests to Davos since 1875.

Davos makes its living from the mountains, the luxury hotel industry and the annual WEF. Two houses in particular have impressed Davos in recent years. The “Golden Egg” and the Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère, now called the “Alpengold Hotel”. Now the latter is looking for a new tenant. This is reported by “Südostschweiz”. It looks like Steigenberger Hotels is pulling out of Davos.

Initial negotiations with future tenants for the traditional grand hotel “Belvédère”, opened in 1875, are said to be ongoing. Everything in Davos is being watched closely. Due to its size and importance, the Steigenberger “Belvédère” has a direct impact on the well-being of the entire Davos destination.

The sale is not open to discussion

Today the 5-star hotel is managed by the Deutsche Hospitality hotel group. This also belongs to a Chinese group. The lease expires on June 30, 2024. It should not be extended. However, according to Südostschweiz, the sale of the luxury hotel is out of the question. A long-term lease agreement is sought. A spokesman for the company’s owners says this is not only in the interest of Davos and the employees.

Discussions have already been held with many interested parties. The new lease is expected to be signed within the next few weeks. According to unconfirmed information in this newspaper, as stated in the report, interested parties include international hotel groups operating in the luxury segment such as Hilton and Marriott.

30 suites are being renovated

Thus the Steigenberger name will disappear from Davos. But “Belvédère” will remain. It will continue to be operated as a 5-star hotel in the future. The renovation of the hotel, which consists of 96 rooms and 30 suites, is currently being considered. The hotel will temporarily close after Easter 2024. It is planned to reopen in early December 2024.
