Job shock at Lenzburg AG: Traditional company Hero announces mass layoffs

Hero jams have been part of the Swiss breakfast table for over 130 years. But the manufacturer appears to be in trouble at its headquarters: There is a threat of mass layoffs at Lenzburg AG.

More than 50 jobs could be lost at the jam packaging plant here. This was reported by the “Aargauer Zeitung”, citing insiders. A Hero spokesperson confirmed the matter. He refers to “consultations regarding the future of the production site in Lenzburg”.

More will be announced only after the consultation phase is completed. Whatever the outcome of the consultation process, it is clear that the company founded in Lenzburg in 1886 will remain in the city. Both Hero’s headquarters and Hero Switzerland remain in the city where the famous castle is located.

Operating in 30 countries in total, Hero AG employs around 4,000 people. The headquarters in Lenzburg employs 200 people, meaning a quarter of the jobs there could be eliminated. The governing council of the city and canton has been informed.

Global company based in Aargau

Since 1995 the majority (now almost entirely) of Hero AG has been owned by Dr. Arend Oetker Holding GmbH & Co. KG is headquartered in Berlin.

The traditional company’s product range includes jams and other spreads, as well as baby food, as well as pasta and vegetable products. In addition to the main brand Hero, the group also includes Roco, Corny, Semper, Organix, Freche Freunde and Parma d’Oro brands.
