Biodiversity so far “neglected”: WWF demands more efforts from companies

The issue of biodiversity is largely neglected by Swiss companies with which WWF has partnered, it was announced on Tuesday night.

The organization talks about two crises: global warming and loss of biodiversity. Companies are paying attention to the former by reducing greenhouse gases. However, both were said to influence each other.

WWF has entered into partnerships with Swiss companies to make the value chain more sustainable and finance environmental work. These included Migros and Coop, as well as retailers Lidl, milk producer Emmi and health insurance company Swica.

The environmental protection agency evaluates the cooperation annually. This year he also praised companies: Emmi had developed a catalog of criteria to assess the sustainability of milk production. Migros Group wants to reduce its emissions to net zero by 2050 at the latest. Coop wants to use only raw materials for its brands without the risk of deforestation. Swica sponsored running events to protect the environment.

According to its own information, WWF Switzerland received eight million francs from partnerships in the 2021/2022 financial year. This corresponds to 15 percent of total income.
