A Swiss plane flew from Zurich to Bilbao on Saturday without a single passenger’s luggage. The airline cites operational reasons.

Swiss passengers were stunned after landing in Bilbao late on Saturday: Even after a long wait, not a single suitcase appeared on the luggage conveyor belt. Switzerland operated flight WK226 to the northern Spanish city for Edelweiss. There was no Swiss crew on site. Finally, Spanish airline Iberia also provided information. The entire plane arrived in Bilbao without a single passenger’s luggage.

Blick has received numerous reports from affected passengers. The plane had already taken off an hour and a half late. According to reader reports, the pilot cited a “lack of skilled workers” as the reason for the delay. Ground personnel and loading documents will be missing.

There is not a word about the lack of luggage on board. It then took more than two hours for the lost luggage to be reported. The burned passenger became angry: “I find it arrogant to knowingly ruin people’s holidays like this. Because it has to be done knowingly.” Considering the weight of the cargo, the crew must have realized that there was no luggage on board.

“Operational reasons due to night flight ban”

Swiss media spokesperson Kavin Ampalam said the following in response to Blick’s question: For operational reasons, after a long wait, the decision was made to fly without luggage. “Otherwise you couldn’t fly back in time before the night flying ban in Zurich,” Ampalam said. We waited for more than an hour. Baggage loading is a complex system with various partners over which Switzerland has no influence.

A Blick reader without luggage in Bilbao sums up the situation: “The luggage could not be loaded due to a lack of qualified workers.” It’s a sad situation for several paragliding pilots who traveled to Spain and are now in Bilbao with no equipment. “Our holidays are in the bucket,” says Blick reader Carsten Redlich.
