Especially bad in this heat: FV-Dosto’s toilets still stink!

The shaking train FV-Dosto still stinks! SBB is unable to contain the problem with toilets, as Blick reported a year ago. In such hot times, the nasty fumes coming out of the toilets make the noses of passengers, especially at the Zurich main station, wrinkle. Especially on platforms 31 to 34 in the Löwenstrasse underground station. It says “Tages-Anzeiger”.

Liquid components are biologically cleaned, heated and discharged in a bioreactor while driving. Big effort for a small business! Solid components are collected in tanks and decomposed by bacteria.

Slow ventilation, harsh soap

A year ago, SBB announced that “The bacteria that cleans the wastewater is running out of bounds”. During the corona epidemic, toilets were only infrequently used. The increased passenger numbers would make things harder for the bacteria – they were overloaded. And later changed. Without success, as it now shows.

Final statement from SBB for the stuffiness in Dosto: breaks between individual journeys. Trains run in economy mode when parked. The ventilation in the toilets is turned off. Apparently this cuts the air for bacteria. But that’s not all: the soap in the sink, the wastewater of which flows into the same tank, is very strong – so the bacteria refuse to work.

“Longer term measures”

Let’s go back to area 1: change the bacteria, change the soap and get more oxygen, even if the train is on the side. SBB no longer seems to believe that toilets can run odorless. More analysis is needed. And “longer-term measures”. They say the application will take some time. One thing is for sure: Dosto was holding the toilet properly, at least when it comes to business toilets. (be)
