From January 1, 2024: Increases postal, letter and parcel prices

That makes a difference: Swiss Post will increase the prices of letters and parcels at the beginning of 2024. A and B Mail letters are 10 centimeter more expensive each, will cost 1.20 francs (A Mail standard letter) and 1.00 francs (B Mail) in the future. An economy box of up to two kilograms is now 8.50 francs (formerly 7 francs), a priority box of 10.50 francs (previously 9 francs), which means 1.50 francs more than before. On the one hand, price increases are necessary due to the continuing decline in letter volumes and post office box office operations. On the other hand, the current price increase in postal services causes significant additional costs for energy, transportation, materials and wages.

Post wanted to hit a lot harder

Swiss Post assures customers that only a fraction of these additional costs will pass. The lack of a higher price premium is apparently due to the price monitor. This indicates that the post office can “significantly slow down” requests.

As a result of the negotiations, the price increases were approximately 70 million less than the post office demanded. For example, Swiss Post wanted to raise the price of a standard A Mail letter to CHF 1.40. Now they agreed on 1.20 francs.

The last price increase was not long ago

The last price increase wasn’t long ago: Swiss Post increased Post A rates by 10 inches and Post B letters by 5 inches as of January 2022. This was the first hike in letter prices in 18 years. Package prices remained the same in 2022. Postal boss Roberto Cirillo (52) justified the price increase at the time with rising delivery costs and inflation.
