Migros Cooperatives Federation (MGB) wants to reform the supermarket business. VQA management has decided to run it in an independent, centrally controlled company in the future. The purpose of the transformation: To simplify and organize the Migros supermarket business more effectively. What the new Super Migros looks like is now clear! Migros will deliver the details tomorrow Friday. You are informed at a glance.

The orange giant says, “Migros Group, which is very healthy financially, will again achieve positive growth in all strategic business areas in 2023.” In its statement, Migros writes that the challenges and costs are still high, especially in the supermarket business. “The main reasons for this are higher raw material costs and increased operating costs due to inflation.”

Diethelm appointed as CEO

Peter Diethelm, who previously led the Migros cooperative in Eastern Switzerland, has been named CEO of the new Migros supermarket AG. This was announced by the Migros Cooperatives Federation on Thursday. Board members of the new business unit have also now been appointed: Guido Rast (President of the Lucerne Cooperative) has been appointed as President, Mario Irminger (President of the FMC General Directorate) has been appointed as Vice President.

Regional cooperatives Mario Caldelari (Valais), Mattia Keller (Ticino), Martin Lutz (Eastern Switzerland) and Reto Sopranetti (Aare) should also be on the committee. Hubert Weber, currently a member of the MGB administration, was delegated to the committee by the FMC.

simplified structures

“Retail trade and especially supermarkets are an important success factor for Migros. We must and want to provide more effective services along the entire value chain. This ranges from production to purchasing and marketing to the branches where we serve customers,” said Mario Irminger, Head of VQA.

In order to simplify their supermarket organization, VQA and the managements of ten regional cooperatives decided in May 2023 to run the core business in a future centrally controlled, independent company.

“Simplicity and Efficiency”

«I see many key advantages of the new company: greater simplicity, productivity and impact, and yet proximity to customers. “We are thus combining the forces of regional roots with a new and more effective management structure,” says Guido Rast, who has been appointed Chairman of MSM AG.
