How did the collaboration with Allianz Chance+ take place?
Allianz Chance+ is similar to ours but pursues goals towards educational equality. This was ideal to connect with our business-oriented perspective.
What was the specific goal?
to raise awareness. We want to show that this is not a trivial problem. It’s a great opportunity for our economy. The study aims to provide an impetus for solutions to follow.
14,000 additional talents will be available per year. Did you expect such a result?
It’s really a big number. But we knew from the very beginning that the potential was there.
What surprised me was how many people actually left our education system without an apprenticeship or training. In the future, the integration of these young people will become a major challenge, especially in connection with the shortage of skilled workers.
So, will promoting disadvantaged youth solve the skilled worker shortage?
It’s part of the solution. At the same time, Switzerland must be able to stand out in the global talent competition. Because the problems are the same between countries.
According to his estimates, the Swiss economy loses up to CHF 29 billion every year. What does the number contain?
The number includes higher salaries and added value provided by companies as additional talent is cultivated each year. Other factors such as higher tax revenues or lower social costs are not included. We also ignored the research breakthroughs that such people could provide.
What measures are needed now?
The proposed measures fall within the business, education and politics triangle. For example, business should move closer to schools to ignite enthusiasm for higher education. And place more emphasis on promoting talent in in-house training.
On the other hand, the financing of education is also an important issue. We need to ensure that financially disadvantaged people can still complete a university degree.
