Several rescuers have been searching for a missing submarine off Newfoundland since Monday. The submarine got lost en route to the wreck of the Titanic. There are five passengers on board. A ticket for the extraordinary trip costs up to $250,000. So not everyone can afford it. That’s why there are several billionaires on board.
Including Shahzada Dawood (48) and his son Suleiman (19). Dawood is considered the richest person in Pakistan. But the rich man lives in Great Britain. He is the director of his own company, Dawood Hercules Corporation, an investment and holding company. In 2020, the company reported sales of 770 million francs. Profit was 130 million Swiss francs.
Dawood also works as a management consultant and has worked for at least six other companies, according to LinkedIn. He holds two university degrees: from the University of Philadelphia and the University of Buckingham. Otherwise not much is known about Pakistan.
Things are different with billionaire Hamish Harding, 58: The Englishman is known for his hunger for adventure. It wasn’t his first extraordinary trip to the Titanic wreck.
As a trained pilot, diver and parachutist, Harding holds many world records. Among other things, the adventure billionaire broke the world speed record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world over both poles with over 100 others.
But Briton is also a businessman: he is chairman of Action Aviation, an international aircraft brokerage company headquartered in Dubai. His company also sponsored the flight for the world’s fastest patrol flight.
Harding is also the founder of Action Group, a private equity investment group. It is not known how much income the group earned. In addition to Action Aviation, the group includes real estate development company Action Property Group and Action Productions, a film production company.
Harding is married to his wife, Linda, and they have two sons, a stepdaughter and a stepson.
Harding was very excited on Instagram before he left with the sub. One sentence in particular stands out: “Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission will likely be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023,” Harding wrote.
The search for the missing continues. As of Tuesday morning, there are still about 60 hours to find the missing persons. (kae)
