Specifically, a total of 2,239 companies filed for bankruptcy by the end of May. That’s a 17 percent increase from the same period last year, as economic information service Dun & Bradstreet announced on Monday.
According to the information obtained, the numbers increased the most in the Espace Mittelland region and Ticino. There was a 26 percent increase, followed by Central Switzerland (+21%) and Northwest Switzerland (+16%).
In the Zurich and Eastern Switzerland regions, business information service recorded a 14 percent increase. The smallest increase was in southwestern Switzerland, at 10 percent.
The number of start-ups has also increased, according to Dun & Bradstreet. However, the 3 percent increase compared to the same period last year was well below the growth in bankruptcies.
