Temporary jobs are booming, not just in care, but in many other industries as well. “We’ve been seeing solid growth since 2021 and that continues this year,” says Marius Osterfeld, 37, economist at the Swiss Staffing Industry Association.
On the one hand, there is a need to grow up in many sectors after Corona. Concerts and other events are being reorganized and the demand for temporary workers, for example in the events industry, is correspondingly high. On the other hand, many companies are reluctant to increase their workforce in the current economic environment. “The reason is uncertainty, you can see dark clouds appear on the economic horizon,” says Osterfeld.
Permanent employment is not the goal
There is a trend that has been shaping the industry for some time: there are too many highly qualified people who can no longer be permanently employed. “Many choose to work as self-employed, but this is often not possible due to social security,” explains Osterfeld. For example, doctors who run a vaccination center for a few months or do a temporary job in group examination. A permanent position is usually not the goal.
The pharmaceutical industry is desperately looking for staff, and there is a particularly high demand for chemistry lab assistants. But many temporary workers also work for banks and insurance companies. And of course in construction, one of the typical business areas of employment agencies along with industry. Because, especially in the industry, the need for personnel can fluctuate greatly depending on the order intake.
