The desire to travel has taken over Switzerland completely again. Confidence in travel increased by eight percent in Germany – more than in any other European country. Eight out of ten Swiss are planning to travel this summer. This is shown in a recent survey by Allianz Partners travel insurance.

Only budget increased more than confidence. Because in this country, you need to dig into your pockets more than ever for a holiday. Inflation drives prices up. Therefore, the travel budget increased by more than 500 francs per household to a total of 2719 francs. Inflation was still 2.2 percent in May. The highest point was reached in February with 3.4 percent.

“After some very difficult times for tourism, we are pleased that summer vacation demand has risen to record levels – despite digging our pockets significantly more,” said Olaf Nink, Managing Director of Allianz Partners.

Almost half travel domestically

The majority move abroad with a generous budget. Inflation is even more pronounced there than in Germany. 46 percent stay in Switzerland for summer vacation.

One reason may be the shocking picture of natural disasters that have occurred in recent years, such as floods in northern Italy or large-scale forest fires in Germany, among other places. Such events do not go unnoticed by people. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said they consider such risks when choosing a resort.

Switzerland wants adventure

At the same time, 43 percent see themselves as more adventurous than they did five years ago. In Switzerland, seven out of ten people surveyed want to discover something new during the holidays.

Allianz conducted the survey with 9,400 people, 1,050 of whom were Swiss citizens, in nine countries. If you look at the results as a whole, the focus is on relaxation.
