Tackling climate crisis: Airbus expects even greater demand for more affordable jets

The aviation boom continues: Airbus expects aircraft demand to continue to rise over the next 20 years. (archive image)

That’s 1,360 machines more than the company had predicted last year for the next two decades. The main reason, he said, is the increasing renewal of fleets with less fuel-thirsty machines. For passenger aircraft, Airbus refers to types with at least 100 seats.

Therefore, the global aircraft fleet is likely to more than double to 46,560 aircraft compared to the beginning of 2020. However, this means that fewer machines are in operation in 2042 than Airbus had predicted for 2038 before the Corona crisis in 2019. This is because the manufacturer assumes that airlines will increasingly phase out older machines.

According to Airbus, the latest generation of fuel-reduced machines only make up about a quarter of the global fleet. It was stated that three quarters of the existing fleet would need to be replaced first to reduce CO2 emissions from air traffic due to the climate crisis.
