Faces several years in prison: Driver goes to court after crash that killed ten in Australia

The driver appeared in court on Tuesday following the serious bus crash in Australia that left ten people dead. Andrew B.*, 58, 58, stood with his head bowed in front of Judge Robyn Richardson in Cessnock. “I see a man in pain before me,” he said, and released him on the condition that he not see witnesses or drive.

The judge said he was concerned about the driver’s condition. He faces several years in prison for dangerous driving for driving “too fast” in the fog, according to police.

The bus with 35 passengers overturned lying on its side at the roundabout, nine people died immediately, and one person died in the hospital where he was taken later. On Tuesday, 14 people were still in the hospital, including one in intensive care.

Alcohol test negative

It was the worst car accident in Australia in the last 16 years. Guests of a wedding party were on the bus to their accommodation.

Police investigations into the eleven allegations were still ongoing. The driver’s breathalyzer test was negative. Police representative David Waddell said some bus passengers had complained about driving too fast before the crash. The way the bus driver entered the roundabout was “not suitable for traffic conditions”. (AFP)
