The positive trend in the Swiss hospitality industry in recent months continues. The number of overnight stays in April increased significantly compared to the previous year.
As the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) announced on Tuesday, the number of overnight stays in April increased by 12 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 2.83 million. Hotels were able to take advantage of the increasing demand from foreign guests. While the overnight stays of domestic guests decreased by 5.3 percent in April, their number increased by 38 percent.
During the entire winter season, from 22 November to 23 April, Swiss hotels set a new record for overnight stays, according to BFS. The number of overnight stays increased by 18 percent to 17.4 million.
The number of foreign tourists increased by 43 percent to 8.1 million. The largest guest group came from Germany, followed by the USA and the UK.
There was also a new rise for local guests in the winter. The number of domestic bookings increased again by 2.5 percent compared to the record season 2021/22, reaching 9.3 million. Demand remained positive in all months except March and April. (SDA/kae)
