I’ve been living almost cashless since 2018. I exchanged a few crowns for a Stockholm city trip that I couldn’t get away with. Because digital payment trumps in Sweden. I was a little pissed off at first, so I said goodbye to cash right away.
It is practical and convenient to pay by card or digitally. No more notes that turn into jingling piles of coins after paying in your pants pocket, either lying on the table or – at least – ending up in the savings column. At first the credit card was still in the cell phone case, but Twint has also stayed at home since the triumph of Apple Pay & Co. When I lost my phone case last summer, within 24 hours I had a new credit card on my iPhone.
Do I have my wallet with me? Where is the nearest ATM? Can you pump me 20 francs? Questions I have to ask myself now. Just hold the mobile phone or smart watch to the payment terminal – the debt has already been settled.
Money transfers in the family have also become easier: Dad, do you still have 28.40 francs for the English book? No more. The request comes through Twint and is completed in seconds.
