Gwyneth Paltrow has been promoting her wellness company “Goop” for years – with some very weird products. Now, the 50-year-old has spoken about her own wellness routine on Dear Media’s “The Art of Being Well” podcast — and it’s sparked outrage.
The main trigger for this was the diet announced by the actress in the episode. Paltrow eats as follows: In the morning she drinks a cup of coffee and otherwise she does intermittent fasting. This is a type of diet where you only eat within an eight-hour window. The remaining 16 hours of the day should give the body time to digest. Studies show that this diet is not recommended for women. This is because it disrupts the hormonal balance.
At noon, Paltrow eats a so-called bone broth. Usually a bone broth is made from marrow bones and meat. There is usually also some vegetables. The broth, however, consists largely of water. A serving contains an average of 40 calories and is not considered a full meal according to several health portals.
After her “lunch”, Paltrow goes to the gym. “I try to move for an hour every day,” says the entrepreneur. This includes a long walk, Pilates, or a home workout. Then it’s half an hour of sweating in the sauna.
At night, Paltrow tries to eat as early as possible so she can start her intermittent fasting early. At dinner, she eats according to the Paleo diet. This diet is based on the foods that were supposedly available in the Stone Age. So meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruit and nuts. Other foods such as grains, legumes, sugar or dairy products are completely avoided. In the interview, Gwyneth emphasizes that she mainly focuses on vegetables to support her “detox”.
To get her needed vitamins, Paltrow was on an IV while recording the podcast. A therapy that she does almost every day and that she “absolutely loves”.
The clip from the podcast episode immediately went viral on TikTok, sparking a wave of outrage. Many accused the actress of glorifying eating disorders with her statements. One user wrote under the video, “It sounds like she prepares for a colonoscopy every day.” Another said: “She can eat something too, then she won’t need the IV.”
But not only the regular users found the video angry. Dozens of nutritionists and doctors also responded to the clip and explained how dangerous this diet is.
For example, a woman of Paltrow’s age should consume an average of 1800 to 2200 calories per day. Especially if you also exercise regularly. The fact that she eats significantly less with her diet and then sells it with the terms ‘detox’ and ‘wellness’ is very dangerous.
