The erect penis gets longer and longer on average

A comparative study found that the average length of the erect penis in men worldwide has increased over the past three decades. In concrete terms, the increase is 24 percent – from about 12.3 centimeters in 1990 to a maximum of 15.2 cm in 2020.

An article published in the journal “The World Journal of Men’s Health” evaluated and compared for the first time 75 studies on this topic published between 1942 and 2021; with data from 55,761 men.

The researchers, led by Dr. Michael Eisenberg, a urologist at Stanford University in the United States, discovered that size not only depends on the region in which people live. Apparently, time also plays a role: the length of the erect penis has changed significantly in recent decades in all age groups. Other dimensions, such as girth or length in normal condition, have remained largely unchanged.

However, the latter may also be because the standards for measuring a flaccid penis are different, according to the authors. The data for erect genitalia, on the other hand, is more accurate, although not always exactly the same. The temperature in the room may also have influenced the measurements. In some studies, the participants measured the penis themselves – errors may also have occurred here. However, the trend towards increasing height can be observed in all studies.

In the past, there have been several studies on declining sperm count in men, more frequent testicular tumors, and low testosterone levels.

When looking for causes, the scientists give several possible reasons. “It can be speculated that these changes are related to observations that pubertal development occurs in younger boys than in the past,” the study says.

Data suggest that earlier pubertal growth may be associated with larger body size, including longer penile length. Some studies have found that a sedentary lifestyle and obesity or endocrine disruptors may play a role. The researchers recommend confirming the trend in further research projects and conducting more research into the causes.

To correctly measure the length and girth of the penis, the limb must be erect. Now a flexible measuring tape is important, because it allows you to determine the length better than with a ruler. If you don’t have a flexible tape measure handy, you can also take a wire and measure the length marked there with a ruler.

To measure girth, place the tape measure or bandage across the widest part of your penis. To measure the length of the penis, place the tip of the tape measure or one end of the string directly on the tip of the penis.
