Savings hammer at Hirslanden clinics: 120 positions will be eliminated

The private hospital group Hirslanden wants to cut almost one in six jobs. The central administration is affected.

The 17 private clinics of the Hirslanden Group are not profitable enough. That is why it is now eliminating almost one in six positions in central government. In concrete terms, this concerns approximately 120 jobs in the Zurich region.

Medical jobs are not affected, as the Tages-Anzeiger reports, but, for example, IT functions. A consultation process has started and employees were informed on Thursday.

“The economic challenges in the Swiss healthcare system are enormous, the hospitals are under severe financial pressure.”

The increase in the number of outpatient treatments mainly causes problems in hospitals. Basic insurance rates that do not cover costs are also part of the problem. More than 2,000 doctors work at the Hirslanden Group. In 2023, approximately 52 percent of patients had basic insurance, plus 27.5 percent semi-private insurance and 20.8 percent private insurance.
