Nora Kronig becomes the new director of the Swiss Red Cross

Nora Kronig Romero is expected to become the new director of the Swiss Red Cross (SRK) on May 1. The head of the International Department of the Federal Office for Public Health (BAG) has been elected as the new SRK director, the SRK announced on Friday.

The Red Cross Council is convinced that Nora Kronig Romero “with her experience in managing complex projects in a federal environment and her experience on the international stage” is best qualified to lead the SRK, the organization said.

According to a statement from the BAG, Kronig Romero himself said:

Nora Kronig Romero grew up in Geneva as a child of German-Swiss parents. It was said that she knew Switzerland’s cultural diversity from personal experience. Kronig Romero studied economics in St. Gallen and trained as a diplomat. She subsequently held various positions with the federal government at home and abroad.

Kronig Romero will take over the management of the SRK office, according to the SRK announcement. This also includes coordination with the Red Cross organizations – namely the 24 cantonal associations of the Red Cross, four Red Cross rescue organizations and two Red Cross institutions. In addition, there is the coordination of the SRC’s relationships and activities with partners and authorities at national and international level. (sda)
