Winter is coming: should I boost myself against Corona now?

With more internal contacts, the coronavirus is now likely to circulate more frequently. For whom a booster vaccination is now recommended.

According to the BAG, almost all people in Switzerland are currently either vaccinated and/or have been through Covid-19. This means that our immune system has “handled” the coronavirus and that the current virus variants also cause milder disease progressions.

One from the BAG strong recommendation For a booster vaccination, people at particular risk receive:

A mmedium/low recommendation strength are given to people who want to reduce their risk of infection for professional and/or private reasons. The rest of the over 16s can of course also receive boosters.

A booster vaccination can be given 4 months after the last Covid-19 vaccination or from 4 months after a confirmed infection with the coronavirus.

As the risk of serious Covid-19 disease in this age group is very low, the BAG recommends vaccination for children and adolescents under 16 years of age in the autumn of 2022. Almost all of them already have antibodies, they have been vaccinated and/or recovered .

The European Commission has approved new corona vaccines for babies from six months. The vaccine doses of the manufacturers Pfizer/Biontech and Moderna are significantly lower for small children and babies. Whether the corona vaccination is actually given to babies is up to the individual EU countries.
So far, no recommendation for babies has been made in Switzerland.

Those who have been given a boost sometimes complain of more severe symptoms than the usual known side effects, such as fever, dizziness, headache, and general malaise.

The infectiologist of the Cantonal Hospital Aarau, Christoph Fux, explains to the “Aargauer Zeitung”: “The more immunity you already have, the stronger the side effect can be. If you have been recently infected with Covid-19, there is even more reactogenicity (the magnitude and clinical significance of the expected vaccination response) in a healthy immune system.”

According to Fux, side effects are a good sign: “People who respond to the vaccination have the certainty that the body is also involved. In an emergency, they are then ready to fight the virus efficiently.” (from)
