Fashion Drape, cashmere or boucle: which material to choose a coat from and why

Let’s start by saying that there are no good and bad coat materials. This dualism is irrelevant because each material is capable of unique shapes, bends and plasticity.

A veil (or fabric) is a special type of thread weaving on a warm fabric for winter and off-season coats, with or without pile. Pure wool felt can be dense and heavy, but modern fibers make it more pliable.

Tweed is a completely different kind of weave. You can recognize his “herringbone” from afar, it gives even the most frivolous coat a business look. Tweed coats are the choice of English gentlemen and American superheroes. And also all the businessmen whose fine tweed suits match the tweed of the heavy coat. It is very wearable – almost for centuries.

Gabardine is another coat texture common in uniforms. This weave is water-repellent and almost wrinkle-free: choose it if you spend time in difficult weather conditions.

Cashmere is the most expensive coat material. These threads are woven in Mongolia from the weightless undercoat of cashmere goats. The goat has to be combed by hand, which means that each thread retains the warmth of the hands. Cashmere coats are very light and warm – they give the feeling of a soft cloud that hugs and warms. Caring for such a coat is not easy, always read the instructions carefully.

Mohair is an unusual choice for big city dwellers. Who hasn’t dreamed of walking around town wrapped in a blanket? Mohair coats are made from such blankets. The most authentic ones are in Scotland and Scandinavia, but Asian options are also very good these days. A mohair coat needs to be carefully combed in the literal sense. Otherwise, the rain and wind will mess it up and you’ll end up with a long pile.

Angora in the composition of the coat fabric is always increased fluffiness. Its threads are woven from rabbit or sheep feathers with a fine fleece. Angora is a democratic equivalent of cashmere for those who want not only warmth, but also tenderness. But it is not very durable.

Boucle is an invention of Gabrielle Chanel. The bouclé weave is always soft, breathable and therefore suitable for the beginning of autumn. Boucle is easy to maintain, does not wrinkle and is washable. If you are close to the French style, choose a boucle made of multi-colored threads – and the holiday, like in your favorite city of Chanel, will always stay with you.
