65 years ago, on October 4, 1957, the world’s first artificial Earth satellite was launched in the Soviet Union. This small sphere with four antennas was called “Sputnik-1”, which became known around the world.
Sputnik-1’s radio waves were easily received by amateur radio receivers, and its flight path covered almost the entire inhabited part of the Earth. Radio amateurs all over the world therefore monitored the signals “Beep! Beep!” and in the evenings, residents of all continents went outside to look at this artificial “star” flying in the sky.
Sputnik-1 made 1,440 orbits around the Earth and transmitted extremely important scientific data to Soviet scientists. Thanks to them, four years later, in 1961, a man – Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin – flew into space for the first time. This event led to the creation of the Raketa watch in the same year, named after Gagarin’s flight into space.
Space has therefore become an integral part of the Raketa watch DNA. The company therefore decided to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik-1 by releasing a specialized timepiece dedicated to the great achievement of mankind and embodying the human dream of conquering space. And we will tell you why this watch model is new:
– The Raketa Sputnik 1 watch has two direct points of contact with the first artificial Earth satellite: firstly, the watch is inspired by a sketch of the Soviet Sputnik model created by the Raketa Watch Factory in 1974, and secondly, the Soviet design was reviewed and approved by the design office that developed Sputnik- 1.
– The dial is made of an alloy of aluminum and magnesium AMg6. It was from it that the outer heat shield covering the spherical shell of Sputnik-1 was made. The name of the alloy is engraved on the underside of the dial.
-Through the case back you can see the elaborately decorated Raketa self-winding movement, completely made in the watch factory in St. Petersburg. A 24-hour movement was chosen for the Sputnik-1 Raketa watch, which is essential for an accurate understanding of the time of day in space.
In every detail of Sputnik there is a reference to real space achievements, which makes the watch not only a stylish and highly accurate accessory, but a true embodiment of an extraterrestrial idea, a flight of human imagination that is not limited to our planet. . Every time you look at the clock face, you’ll know that your potential, like the Rockets, knows no bounds.
