7 winter 2023 fashion trends that may not suit you and how to fix them

Trends are tricky. You must have come across a situation when you really liked a fashion item, it looked amazing on a model, a friend or an unknown person, but it didn’t suit you at all. Don’t worry, it’s completely normal! Your figure is unique and every girl has her strengths and weaknesses, so you should choose clothes with them in mind.

Therefore, in this article, we have collected for you 7 trends for the autumn-winter season 2022/2023 that can be potentially dangerous, as well as tips on how to tame them. Let’s not get into trouble!

Fringe

Fashion is cyclical: the 20s came, fringes returned – predictably! Trends on the catwalks dictate fashion not only for fringes, but also for their exaggerated long version, i.e. bags, skirts and dresses with long “noodles” and jackets with “wings”. Yes, they can look a little questionable in everyday life, but that doesn’t mean fashion vines should be abandoned. You can tame the fringe with a monochromatic look: it will become a good and bright accent, and you can avoid over-dramatizing the image.

If you still want different colors, you can try a sweater with contrasting asymmetrical fringes or a stylish scarf with colorful squares. By the way, all the fashionistas in the world are going crazy for him right now – here we will tell you why!

Transparent fabrics

This season, fashionistas seem to be obsessed with sheer long sleeves, t-shirts and dresses. The style of the year 2000 cannot be stopped! Therefore, yes, despite the bans of some stylists, transparent images are now mega-relevant. But many girls are afraid to show a little more than they would like and deny themselves the pleasure of wearing such things.

It’s really quite tiring to watch so that nothing opens, slides and shines through. But there is one tip, after which transparent fabrics will become an integral part of your image. The life hack is simple: you have to choose the first layer correctly. Seamless underwear or nude bodysuits will hide everything you don’t want to show and help you feel in a hundred. Yes, underwear can be beaten as part of an outfit, but that’s a “special” level, let’s say – we’re starting from scratch!

Shoulder pads

This element was first used by Elsa Schiaparelli in her Fall 1931 collection, but it didn’t become mainstream until the 1940s. Shoulder pads then made their presence felt in the 1970s thanks to Yves Saint Laurent and in the 1980s against the backdrop of the raging second wave of feminism. And now exaggerated shoulders are back.

Voluminous shoulder pads attract attention and make you feel authoritative and confident. But the slightest violation of the balance of volumes can completely spoil the image and make it comical. This can be easily fixed: try wearing an oversized jacket with oversized shoulder pads and make the bottom part of the look more neutral, for example in the form of straight jeans or leggings.

Overall skin appearance

A bolder and trendier version of total denim and also very practical in our winter conditions! The downside of this trend is that the skin, like everything shiny, can look optically full, but this can be easily corrected. We advise you to turn to matte materials: in a situation with shiny skin, you can focus on the waist and slightly open the wrist and neck area – this will make your image visually more fragile and feminine.

Fuchsia

It will warm you up and cheer you up on a cloudy winter day. It attracts attention and makes you smile. Thanks fuchsia! But many girls are afraid to wear this color because they don’t quite understand what to combine it with. Perhaps, let’s start with the juiciest combinations: green, yellow, orange, red, purple – don’t pay attention! But if you want to create a more relaxed look, then gray, milky and dark blue will help you.

Maxi coat

A stylish look that can easily be created with a long coat is very easy to spoil if the proportions are broken. Outerwear, and especially massive ones, optically “nail” you to the ground. To correct the situation, we recommend stretching the image with a heel, wedge or hairstyle (high ponytail or “bun”). You can also play with volumes: take a closer look at tight-fitting trousers and elegant shoes (above the knee or stilettos).

Big bags

Comfortable. Spacious. And fashionable! Catwalks dictate not only large, but also huge bags. Elisabetta Franchi and Dior have long represented the maxi-shopper, Loewe – the bag-bag, Bottega Veneta and Salvatore Ferragamo – the sling (a spacious bag with a long soft handle that can be easily thrown over the shoulder). However, this fashion trend has one very significant drawback.

Using massive bags, you need to skillfully balance between your own proportions and the volume of accessories, especially for petite girls – otherwise it may turn out that the bag visually “overshadows” you. If you want to tame this trend, try standing on heels and looking at voluminous clothes. Oversized sweatshirts, long sleeves, hoodies, coats and raincoats will do. This trick will help restore the visual balance of volumes and make the image harmonious.
