Fashion 5 things that stylists themselves do not wear after fifty: a true confession of a fashion expert

There is a saying in English: “At 20 you dress for others, at 40 you dress for yourself, and at 60 you realize that no one has ever judged you by your clothes.” The phrase makes sense, but we would honestly advise you to dress for yourself in your 20s, 40s and 60s. Girls who enjoy their appearance and know how to express their mood with clothes can be seen from afar! They shine confidently and look stylish even in the simplest combinations.

By the way, about simplicity: personal stylist Nancy Quinn admits that with age she really learned to put together the most stylish looks from the basics. If earlier she liked to experiment with feathers, sequins, prints and other fashion elements, then after 50 years she was imbued with straight silhouettes and minimalism – by the way, sometimes it looks more expensive than designer prints.

And, judging by the reviews, many fashionistas who celebrated their 50th birthday agree with Nancy: she got rid of some categories of clothes and shoes, but she did not stop looking stylish and fresh. So Quinn reveals that she stopped wearing…

  • high heels and uncomfortable shoes. If shoes don’t bring joy, why do you really need them? Nancy is sure that you should not torture yourself even with the most beautiful pumps, which look great in the photo, but give an unforgettable feeling of corns and swollen feet. The best decoration is your confident walk!
  • clothes for one time. Why fill your wardrobe with disposable items? Even the New Year’s dress should be chosen in such a way that you can later wear it to other parties;
  • things that others have approved. Gone are the days for a stylist to take a friend shopping and wait for her approval. Also, according to Nancy, you shouldn’t wear a dress that your boyfriend wants to see you on, or a jacket that everyone around you praises – if you’re into that kind of clothing yourself and would hardly buy it without someone else’s insistence, then you shouldn’t leave Yippee. Let your wardrobe contain only what you want to try one more time and spin in front of the mirror;
  • a “third” accessory. Nancy noticed that the third in line usually wears a pendant or a watch that can be completely discarded, leaving behind, say, earrings and a bracelet. The excessive desire to “decorate” fades over time and allows for a more elegant appearance;
  • super trendy stuff. If earlier Quinn liked to try on the hottest novelties of the season to at least try them on, then after fifty she stopped doing so. For example, designers are obsessed with purple, but this color does not suit the stylist, which means that it will not be in the wardrobe, no matter what the experts advise.
