Fashionable 3 wardrobe items to ditch if you’re over 50: the opinion of stylists

Here are some things, according to stylists, you should give up to “refresh” your wardrobe.

Clothes that are small for you

It happens to even the best of us: we buy jeans, skirts and dresses that are too small for us yet, but might fit when we “lose some weight”. Stylist Tracey Jeske believes that such clothes should be ruthlessly disposed of – especially if you haven’t worn them in the last year.

“Women often buy things that should be a reward for losing pounds. However, if we don’t fit into them, we begin to consider ourselves unworthy of looking good. We think we’re ugly just because we don’t fit a certain size. That is why it is very important to leave clothes in the style of “one day”, to recognize that the body is changing and to understand that the main thing is to feel good here and now, “says Tracey.

Things you are emotionally attached to

Sentimental clutter is what Jeske calls a collection of wardrobe items that have emotional value to you but are not used at the same time. Such things, the stylist believes, can prevent you from moving forward. “It’s time to admit that you’re not the same person you were 20 or 30 years ago. You won’t want to wear what you once wore,” says Tracey.

Don’t you want to throw away your prom dress? Jeske recommends putting it in a “memory box” – take a special box or a separate box for old things that are dear to your heart and gifts from loved ones that you look at very rarely.

Jeans

Surprised, right? Do not worry – we are not talking about the fact that jeans are clothing for youth, contraindicated after 50 years. Of course, denim is a classic that can be worn at any age. However, stylist Sonya Barnes advises, firstly, to get rid of outdated models and, secondly, not to think that jeans must be in your wardrobe.

A recent survey by British delivery service CollectPlus found that at the age of 53, finding the right pair of jeans is harder for people – it takes five to eight days, they have to try on at least six different styles and shoppers experience a lot of stress when shopping (6% of respondents admitted that they even burst into tears).

Are jeans worth it? If you understand that choosing them exhausts you, consider giving them up – like any other clothing that is traumatic for you. You almost certainly already know what you can replace it with – do it instead of considering some items as “must-haves” that must be in the wardrobe.
