4 types of sandals you shouldn’t wear this summer and how to replace them

However, not all sandals are equally useful – according to experts, there are four models that are better not to wear. Of course, if you wear them a few times a month, nothing bad will happen. But if you walk in them all the time, it’s full of problems. So they are the best sandals to wear only if you don’t have to walk a lot in them.

1. High-heeled sandals

As the British orthopedist Margaret Trevillon explained, such shoes put too much weight on the feet, and this not only causes discomfort, but can also lead to poor posture and the progression of existing diseases of the spine and joints. The doctor advises choosing shoes with a low heel or a flat sole, but fashion blogger Margaret Manning has another alternative.

Margaret believes that wedges can be an excellent replacement for stilettos – “a beautiful and stable shoe option” for all women of all ages. “You can wear them with dresses, tunics, jeans, just about anything, and a light cream or nude wedge will elongate your leg,” says Margaret.

2. Flip flops

Trevillon says they provide minimal leg support and little to no leg protection. “Because of them, your feet can start to hurt, you risk tripping and falling, because the shoes actually just hang on your feet. A thin belt can not only rub the skin, but also cause deformation of the fingers,” warns the orthopedist.

3. Slippers

They differ from flip-flops only in the absence of a jumper – slippers carefully preserve all other disadvantages of the previous model. Orthopedist Gregory Alvarez recommends replacing these shoes with sandals with secure straps and preferably memory foam inserts to help keep your joints healthy.

When it comes to fashion, stylist Elisabeth Kosich recommends choosing a classic – leather sandals. According to Kosich, they are an elegant and universal model, great for summer.

4. Sandals without cushioning and foot support

If sandals have straps but no arch support and cushioning sole, Trevillon recommends not wearing them. “It will not adequately compensate for the impact load, which can lead to discomfort and pain,” explains the orthopedist. But that’s not the worst: with age, the arches of the feet tend to become flatter and weaker, and sandals with flat, hard soles will only make this problem worse.

Style coach Angela Foster advises girls to look for espadrilles, “comfy shoes perfect for picnics and pool parties” that look great with everything from shorts to maxi dresses. And Margaret reminds that for constant wear in the summer, you need to look for not only beautiful, but also comfortable shoes, because only then will you save your health.
