How to wear white things at 50+: tips from stylists Fashion

Stylist Meloni Huber thinks it’s a stereotype. “Every woman can wear white things as long as she feels confident and comfortable in them. This color can be a great way to add freshness and vibrancy to an outfit, making it modern and chic,” she says.

How to achieve? Here are seven life hacks to help!

Start small

If you’ve always found black to be slimming and prefer it, then it’s best to experiment with details – it’s a great way to learn a new style. “Put on a white shirt, turn up the collar, opt for chunky beads or a layered gold necklace to add color to your face—that’s a great start,” advises Meloni.

Choose the right shade

Not all white stuff is created equal! It is important to find the right color option that suits you. For those with cool skin tones, stylist Daisy Tinsley Barnett recommends bright white, but for warmer tones, she says creamy white is best. “Bring the thing to your face and look in the mirror. Does the substance make the skin look radiant or “tired”? If you look amazing, then the shade suits you,” says stylist and fashion designer Zoe DuFour.

Add accessories

They can completely transform white clothes. “A great way to soften a white dress is to dilute it with a neutral brown. Adding leather sandals, a hat or a belt for example will help stabilize the piece and make the look more casual,” explains Barnett. For a more elegant look, she recommends gold – eye-catching jewelry, high gold heels or a gold clutch.

Be careful when landing

With white things, this is especially important: Barnet recommends that light-colored clothes “fall” on problem areas of the body, masking them and drawing attention to the dignity of the figure.

Play around with a mix of fabrics and textures

“It’s important to choose lightweight fabrics that don’t accentuate your figure,” says Sharon Worthen. “Avoid hard and heavy materials – they make you look bigger than you really are.” “Depth and interest to an outfit,” according to Sharon, can add a mix of whites with different textures — such as lace and wool — to an outfit.

Switch to monochrome

An all-white look paired with heels can elongate your legs and make them slimmer. Want to accentuate your waistline? In this case, Huber advises adding a belt to the dress.

Add bright colors

“White isn’t so easy if you’re over 50 – it can make you look too pale and ‘wash’ the color off your face. However, white can be very easily balanced with bright lipstick or accessories,” explains Barnett.

And finally, if you prefer dark clothing, then remember that it’s just as good as white, and don’t change your personal style just to follow trends.
