If you were a guest at movie nights in the early 2000s, chances are “Ice Cold Angels” made its way into the player at some point. No wonder, because the erotic romance with Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon is one of the hottest films of the nineties. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you can watch it with a Paramount+ subscription or watch it on the big screen on July 4, 2023, as “Ice Cold Angels” will make it as part of the Best Of Cinema series one day again in some German cinemas.
That fits the current situation quite well, because as announced a few weeks ago, Amazon has given the green light for a new series of “Eiskalte Engel”. And through the cast is now known: Other starring roles include Sarah Catherine Hook (“First Kill”) as Caroline, Zac Burgess (“Bring Me Back”) as Lucien, Khobe Clarke (“Yellowjackets”) as Scott, Brooke Lena Johnson (“You”) as Beatrice, Sara Silva (“The Boys”) as CeCe, John Harlan Kim (“9-1-1”) as Blaise, Myra Molloy (“He’s All That”) and Sean Patrick Thomas, who starred as Ronald Clifford in the original but now in the new role of Professor Chadwick will be seen.
The series would have eight episodes and be designed as a one-season miniseries. Like the 1999 feature film, the series adaptation focuses on two step-siblings who have no qualms about standing up for their best interests. After an incident of bullying, the duo do everything they can to restore their power and reputation – and to do so, the daughter of the Vice President of the United States becomes the object of their desire, which the duo tries to seduce.
Apparently the story has been modified a bit, because the original is about the stepsister (Sarah Michelle Gellar) who offers her stepbrother (Ryan Phillippe) a perfidious bet to get revenge on her ex-lover: if he can do it, the seductress student Annette (Reese Witherspoon) he is offered sex with his stepsister. In return, he uses his Jaguar for this. But the plan doesn’t work because real feelings soon get involved in the dirty game.
In 2016, NBC commissioned a pilot for a sequel to the film, which would see Sarah Michelle Keller reprise her role as Kathryn. In the end, however, the series was not ordered. There have also been two feature film format updates in the past, “Eiskalte Engel 2” and “Eiskalte Engel 3”. However, in this country these were released straight to DVD and could not achieve the cult character of the first release.
