The Sony Bravia X85K with 55 inches (140 centimeters) currently costs 749 euros at Amazon and has thus reached the previous low price. The slightly smaller version is even 200 euros cheaper than the recommended retail price at 50 inches (127 centimeters) and currently costs only 679 euros*.
Sony Bravia X85K: great black levels and 120 Hz
The X85K is a powerful all-rounder that is very suitable for home cinema. The 120 Hz refresh rate and various gaming technologies such as VRR and ALLM in combination with four HDMI 2.1 ports enable lag-free gaming with next-gen consoles such as the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The X85K’s display offers high contrast and very little blooming effects. The latter refers to the phenomenon of a bright glow around an object on the screen, shining in dark areas. With the X85K that is hardly the case and for an LED TV that is worth mentioning. The review page Rtings.com gives the X85K in this category ten out of ten points.
In addition, there is a strong maximum brightness, which is especially noticeable in HDR mode. The Sony TV supports Dolby Vision, HLG and HDR10. In addition, the X85K achieves very good black levels for a non-OLED TV. However, there is no local dimming function, which is why the Sony Bravia TV is just inferior to an OLED TV in this respect.
When it comes to smart TV functions, however, the X85K convinces in all areas. Google TV is used as operating system. The Playstore gives you a free choice of all relevant streaming apps. You can also stream content from your smartphone to the 4K TV via Chromecast. The integrated Bravia cam also offers video chatting.
Affordable OLED TV as an alternative to the Sony X85K
In general, the Sony Bravia X85K is a very good LED television that is priced well below the good OLED and QLED TVs. An alternative is the LG OLED CS9, the 55-inch version on Amazon currently for 999 euros* is to have.
As an OLED TV, the CS9 achieves even deeper black levels than the X85K. Since each light-emitting diode can be turned on and off individually with OLED technology, the CS9 requires no local dimming and virtually no blooming effects. In addition, the LG TV has better viewing angle stability.
