Action sequel by Liam Neeson already sets a record: Amazon Prime Video destroys Netflix

Such as the magazine reports, Amazon Prime Video will secure the (almost) worldwide rights to “Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky” for approximately $17 million. It’s a record amount. No other film has spent so much money this year on the Cannes film market, where numerous rights are traditionally traded. The contracts have not yet been definitively signed, but the deal is about to be finalized.

But Amazon Prime Video only has worldwide rights secured, because there is one country where someone else struck: Germany. Have noisy here another buyer acquired initial distribution rights in a “separate multi-million dollar deal”. Who that is is not yet known. However, we strongly believe that this will mean a theatrical release for Germany due to the circulating amounts. The predecessor “The Ice Road” also hit theaters in this country, but ended up being subscribed to Amazon Prime Video for a while, which also seems like a very likely variant for the sequel.

In any case, Amazon Prime Video destroys its competitor Netflix. The streaming service with the big red “N” once secured its predecessor for a similar amount “The Ice Road” – but only for North America and a few other countries. So this time we went completely empty handed.

This is Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky

In the sequel, Mike McCann, played by Liam Neeson, will probably have to race over dangerous, icy roads again. But Neeson can also prove his action skills in the fight against mercenaries. And this time the whole thing takes place not in North America, but in Nepal.

Mike goes there to fulfill his late brother’s last wish and scatter his ashes on the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. But during the bus tour on the famous “Road To The Sky” they are ambushed by a group of Nepali mercenaries. Now it’s up to Neeson’s Mike McCann and his responsible mountaineer to protect the busload of innocent travelers and the local village from the bandits. McCann will certainly be able to get behind the wheel of the big bus and/or other heavy vehicles.

As with its predecessor, Jonathan Hensleigh (“The Punisher”) is responsible for directing and writing the script. Filming is scheduled for early 2024, so that no restrictions are to be expected from the strikes that are currently taking place and may still be pending in Hollywood. It is not yet known who will play the second leading role next to Neeson and who will assist the trucker as a mountain guide.
