While the Shazam! Fury Of The Gods” was $ 125 million, the DC blockbuster barely made its production costs at the box office and ended up with a worldwide gross of $ 133 million. A very weak result, with the studio making a loss and those responsible at DC and Warner the should actually agree that a third installment of the “Shazam” series is all but ruled out.
James Gunn, the CEO of the new DC studio, hasn’t said the Shazam theme will actually hit the big screen. That’s why it’s not a pointless labor of love that protagonist Zachary Levy is now talking to wanted a very special superhero for a possible “Shazam 3”:
“Maybe Green Lanterns? I’d love to see Green Lantern help us fight the hordes of the undead. That would be really cool!”
In case anyone is wondering why Shazam will have to deal with the undead in the third part, Zachary Levy has already floated the idea that the hero and his team will have to deal with zombies in the next film. That is not unusual, for that we have to think of “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”. There we could already see how a zombie was on the road in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If not as an opponent.
Green Lantern will come anyway
While it’s not yet clear if “Shazam” will have a future in the new DCU, it’s already a foregone conclusion that Green Lantern will be a part of it. Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two of the most popular and recognizable heroes of the Green Lantern world, are getting their own series. According to James Gunn, it will be a “True Detective” style series. The two main characters must solve puzzles throughout the multiverse.
Should Green Lantern make an appearance in “Shazam 3”, it wouldn’t be the first time Billy Batson – Shazam’s real name – gets help from big DC heroes. Part 1 features Henry Cavill’s version of Superman, although his face is not seen. In “Shazam! Fury Of The Gods” Gal Gadot then had a cameo as Wonder Woman. For “Shazam 3” Levy wants more than a short appearance, because this is where Green Lantern really should come into action. Let’s see if anything comes of it. We are skeptical.
