In “Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3” there’s another really good Marvel villain, a wonderfully nasty adversary that you can abhor with all your heart. But while one or the other in the audience would have wanted it otherwise, the Guardians around Rocket Raccoon ultimately decide to let the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) live – and apparently let him go down with his starship. But is that right?
No, in fact, the High Evolutionary is still alive, nor is he left aboard his exploding starship. We’re not going to say we noticed that in the fiery, effervescent finale of Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, but thankfully two people involved in the film have already confirmed it: VFX artist Miguel Ángel Acevedo Montserrat – and director James Gunn.
Drax saves the High Evolutionary
But first of all, after the Guardians defeat the High Evolutionary with their combined power, Rocket doesn’t want to shoot the bully, preferring instead to save the (experimental) animals trapped on the spaceship. The Guardians diligently help – yes In one of the rescue scenes, Drax (Dave Bautista) is not carrying an animal over his broad shoulders, but the High Evolutionary.
Do not you think? Fortunately, you can watch the relevant scene in this video, where Acevedo Montserrat made the relevant reveal. Included you can clearly see that the figure has arms and hands over Drax’s shoulders:
As Gunn explained in a later tweet, this is the pinnacle of Rocket’s character development: “He goes from the least empathetic Guardian to the most empathetic Guardian. It would be foolish and wrong of him to refuse to kill him and then leave him on an exploding spaceship.” .
Incidentally, High Evolutionary actor Chukwudi Iwuji has already hinted quite strongly that his character is not dead, as you might believe after “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3”. In the site’s Phase Zero podcast Iwuji said, “I hope you guys get to see a longer version or an alternate ending, which we definitely filmed. The thing is, Rocket won’t shoot me. […] And you won’t see me sink with the ship. I’ll leave it at this…”
So the High Evolutionary could actually show up in another MCU movie and cause trouble again. However, he will not do that under the leadership of James Gunn, who will now be responsible for the films and series of the DC studios. We have already considered in this article how the new Guardians could proceed:
