“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniadiffers from the previous two “Ant-Man” films in many ways: Instead of small Heist family stories in superhero guise, the program here is suddenly a brightly colored quantum-level blockbuster spectacle. In addition, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the four main characters of the series and Ant-Man’s now grown daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) ) included.
But for example, there is no trace of the trio of secondary characters Luis (Michael Peña), Kurt (David Dastmalchian) and Dave (Tip ‘TI’ Harris), who became dear to us in two films. Especially Michael Peña and Luis’ great montages from “Ant-Man” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp” will be missed by many fans of the first two parts. But David Dastmalchian’s Kurt also had a few laughs on his side with his Baba Yaga running gag. So it’s a shame there doesn’t seem to be any trace of the three – isn’t it?
Not quite, because at least one of the three actors actually stars in “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” – albeit in a different role: David Dastmalchian. To recognize the Kurt actor, you have to listen very carefully and also watch the original version, because e.gr plays the sticky, jellyfish-like creature Vebwho becomes quite fascinated with Scott Lang’s openings in “Quantumania”:
In the Ant-Man 3 interview, director Peyton Reed also revealed why Dastmalchian is back, but Michael Peña isn’t (in the case of Tip ‘TI’ Harris, that’s pretty obvious, as the rapper-actor and his wives have faced numerous sexual assault allegations ). Peyton Reed explained to us:
“We felt that the story of Luis and Co. was complete. But David Dastmalchian is my lucky charm, so to speak, I can’t make an Ant-Man movie without David. So I really wanted to bring David back as a different character, and that’s how we ended up with Veb.”
You can watch the full interview with Peyton Reed here, but beware: there’s an acute risk of spoilers as we asked the director about the biggest questions after the film’s end. So read on at your own risk if you haven’t seen Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania yet:
