Alec Baldwin reports agreement after deadly shooting – filming continues

Hollywood star Alec Baldwin says he has reached an amicable settlement with the family of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins, who was shot dead during a film shoot. Almost a year after the incident, Baldwin announced on Instagram on Wednesday that a civil lawsuit had been filed against him and others involved in the production of the western Rust. “During this difficult process, everyone had a desire to do what was best for Halyna’s son”Baldwin’s statement said. They are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this “tragic and painful” situation.

Hutchins’ widower announced through his attorney that he had dropped the lawsuit. A court has yet to formally approve the agreement. “We all believe that Halyna’s death was a horrible accident,” wrote Matthew Hutchins. He has no interest in blaming Baldwin and the film producers. Instead, they wanted to pay tribute to the cameraman’s recent work.

Chief camerawoman Hutchins, 42, was fatally injured on Oct. 21 while filming the western “Rest” at a movie farm in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin, who worked as the film’s lead actor and producer, was holding a gun during rehearsal for a scene when a gunshot went off. Hutchins leaves behind a husband and a son. The family filed a lawsuit against Baldwin and other associates in February for gross negligence.

Baldwin linked a report from the cinema portal “Deadline.com” on Instagram on Wednesday. Under the agreement with the next of kin, widower Matthew Hutchins will now serve as the film’s executive producer. Shooting, which was halted after the shooting, will resume in January. Director Joel Souza, who was hit in the shoulder in the incident, continues filming. He wanted to honor the camerawoman’s legacy and make her proud, Souza said in a statement to CNN.

Investigation revealed that there was a real bullet in the Colt. Baldwin had denied responsibility for the fatal accident. The police investigation is underway. The New Mexico Attorney’s Office can still file charges in this case. (saw/sda/dpa)
