Those who know the books by bestselling authors Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman know that the two are usually good for a lot of imagination and a good deal of humor – and that was also reflected in the first season of Good Omens. Amazon Prime Video adapted the series from the (now-defunct) novel A Good Omen by Gaiman and Pratchett, and British stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen cast the series as an unorthodox and hilarious duo of demons and angels.
But after the end of season 1, the omens did not seem so good: the start of the second season was not in sight for a long time – until now! primevideo has now revealed that season 2 of Good Omens will consist of six episodes and will be released on July 28, 2023. And that’s more than four years after Season 1 launched on May 31, 2019!
We didn’t initially expect the series to be renewed as season 1 already covered the book’s story. “Good Omens” seemed to be a classic mini-series, so it was only designed for one season. Two years into the series, the news that a second season had been ordered was all the more surprising – and two years have passed since then.
Season 2 of “Good Omens”: No longer based on a novel
Well, the long wait is finally over, and if you can’t remember exactly what season 1 was all about, don’t worry. Because as I said: the plot of the impending apocalypse was complete. And now that there’s no template, the series will break new ground, sending demon Crowley (Tennant) and angel Erziraphael (Sheen) on all-new adventures.
Little is known about the contents of Season 2 so far. After the unlikely angel-devil duo averted the end of the world in Season 1, Crowley and Erziraphael have mingled with the mere mortals of London and pursued their earthly pleasures . But then an unexpected messenger reveals a surprising secret… and we can well imagine that the team must set heaven and hell in motion again in the truest sense of the word to avert disaster for humanity.
