1/8
California wines are popular. The growing areas in Napa Valley are well known – much less well known, but Sonoma Wine Country is just as beautiful.

one

Healdsburg, California

The small town of Healdsburg is located on the Russian River in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country near San Francisco. This is where small-town charm meets stunning scenery and award-winning wineries. A colorful array of shops, restaurants, tasting rooms, galleries and bars greets visitors around the town square. The place is still considered an insider tip and is not just an oasis for residents of the big city.

Fly: Healdsburg has a lot to do, from wine tasting to shopping to country horseback riding.

2

Reno City, Nevada

The city of Reno is just 35 kilometers from Lake Tahoe and is close to the Sierra Nevada. It’s been dubbed “the world’s greatest small city” as it’s becoming increasingly popular for its casinos and cultural scene – a real alternative to the better known Las Vegas. Reno is turning into a lively university town that also offers outdoor activities. Likewise, art and culture live here, and events take place all over the city.

Fly: Those looking for a different experience can visit the Animal Ark in Reno. Here, rescued wild animals such as cheetahs and bears are taken and groomed.

3

Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

One of Missouri’s largest, the Lake Ozark national park promises rest and relaxation in a scenic bay. During the holidays, visitors can go fishing, boating, swimming or enjoying the tranquility of a picnic. There are many beautiful campgrounds in the sunny clearings. Horse riders, hikers and cyclists will also find happiness in open woods and creeks. You can then enjoy the view of the Lake of the Ozarks from the cliffs.

Fly: The natural beauty and seclusion of Lake of the Ozarks State Park remains untouched. Still, more and more visitors reach the region, which became famous for the Netflix series “Ozark” (2017-2022).

4

Baxter State Park, Maine

Baxter State Park is one of the wildest wildlife sanctuaries on the East Coast. It is at the northern end of the Appalachian Road. Among other things, Mount Katahdin, the highest mountain in the state of Maine, is located here at 1606 meters. If you want to see it in gorgeous colors and see the mountains reflected in northern Maine’s beautiful lakes, come in the fall. Sometimes you can even see the Northern Lights at this time, as the park is very north and there is no light pollution. Those who miss this view can watch the stars without light pollution.

Fly: If you like hiking, you shouldn’t miss the Knife Edge Trail. It offers one of the most impressive hikes in New England (and the entire United States). Appropriate equipment, skills and experience are essential.

5

Devil’s Tower, Wyoming

Devils Tower is located in Wyoming, the most sparsely populated state in the USA. It is one of the best hidden gems in the western United States. The site is sacred to Native Americans. This is one of the reasons why the Devil’s Tower was named the first national monument in the United States by then-President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) in 1906. The best way to admire the rock formation is from the Tower Trail. The hiking trail is more than three kilometers long and offers great views. There are 8 miles of hiking trails along the Devils Tower National Monument.

Fly: It’s worth a detour to the area: for example, to nearby Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park in neighboring South Dakota.

6

Woodstock, Vermont

Woodstock, Vermont is a charming town with historic buildings, covered bridges, apple orchards, woods and rolling hills. This traditional village is full of picturesque farms and landscapes that can’t be found anywhere else. Unlike the state’s bustling cities like Stowe and Burlington, crowds stay away here. The unforgettable farm-to-table restaurants and boutiques in the city center are particularly recommended.

Fly: The scenic Quechee Strait is a short drive away. The best time to visit is during the autumn season in October. Then nature manifests itself in its most magnificent attire.

7

Mackinac Island, Michigan

Mackinac Island is located in the deep, icy waters of Lake Huron in Michigan. The island is the perfect destination for those who want to travel out of the ordinary. Driving is prohibited on the island and the only means of transportation is horse carriages. With its traffic-free and lush scenery, Mackinac Island is a dream come true. A place where you can really turn off.

Fly: Here you can get married in a wonderful setting. More and more American couples like to celebrate their wedding here.

8.

Jekyll Island, Georgia

Off the coast of Georgia lies an idyllic island called Jekyll Island. It captivates with its pristine nature and fascinating history – without the crowds that can be found in other parts of the state. During the Golden Age of the late 19th century, Jekyll Island was a private retreat for the world’s wealthiest people: among them, for example, William Vanderbilt (1821-1885), JP Morgan (1837-1913), and William Rockefeller (1841-). 1922) . Today, Jekyll Island welcomes visitors of all kinds. Here you will find untouched nature, historical architecture and an interesting mix of old and new.

Fly: The Jekyll Island Club existed on the island during its industrial heyday. At that time it was the richest and most elite club in the world. Many of the mansions have survived to the present day and can be visited.

What you need to know:

Traveling to the USA is finally getting easier again! On May 11, 2023, America will remove vaccines for international air travelers. The obligation to do Corona-Pixies was introduced in November 2021. This measure is no longer valid because the number of Corona-related hospitalizations and deaths has dropped by 90 percent.
