tackling Marvel? The creepy cult sequel fans have been waiting for is finally here

In 1988, Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” hit theaters and wowed audiences with its mix of horror, black humor, and stop-motion tricks. Director Burton then shot “Batman” with his lead actor Michael Keaton, “Beetlejuice” became an animated series and then even a musical mega hit – but one thing hasn’t happened in the more than 30 years since: a sequel! That’s now changing, ending a long story of fan woes.

Because there were always attempts. Screenplays were written, castings announced, and ultimately it failed. Over time, Beetlejuice 2 was one of those projects that Hollywood was sure would remain in development hell forever. Both director Tim Burton and “Beetlejuice” star Michael Keaton have since given up hope and stated that the film will never be made. But now he comes anyway:

“Beetlejuice 2” vs. “Blade”: 2024 in cinemas!

After talks about a sequel picked up speed again in recent months and casting reports started circulating, it is Now official: As announced by Warner, “Beetlejuice” will be released in U.S. theaters on September 6, 2024. We assume that the German date will be in the immediate vicinity. The current schedule sees you taking on Marvel’s “Blade”, which is also scheduled for this US launch date.

Warner’s choosing that date, even though there has been no game in the weekends before and after, can certainly be taken as a declaration of war. However, it is quite possible that a further delay of “Blade” is expected anyway. The vampire hunter’s first MCU appearance has been plagued by script issues, and the current Hollywood strike has put all further work on the script on hold.

“Beetlejuice 2” would not have this problem. The script from “Wednesday” creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar has been completed and filming begins today. From the Netflix hit series “Wednesday”, which he produced and (partly) directed, Tim Burton, of course again directing himself, brought not only the authors, but also the leading actress.

Jenna Ortega alongside Original stars Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton

After it was announced two months ago that Jenna Ortega should be involved in “Beetlejuice 2”, she has now been officially announced. Included It was also confirmed that Ortega will play Lydia Deetz’s daughter from the first film. Lydia actress Winona Ryder is back on board, as is Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice. Justin Theroux (“Zoolander”) will also take on a previously unknown role. Brad Pitt is also behind the camera as a producer with his company.

Originally, Winona Ryder stars as the daughter of a couple (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) who move into a new house, but are still haunted by the recently deceased previous owners (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin). So they turn to the poltergeist and bio-exorcist Beetlejuice for help – but they are soon all but impressed by his methods.
