It is often easy to get the right answer from the couch. Very different in the studio of the popular RTL quiz “Who wants to become a millionaire?”, where many spectators sit in the room and you sit directly opposite Günther Jauch. Moreover, the question she gave up on with the candidate Laura Brodda required a certain specialist knowledge: the fashion blogger from Mainz should have been familiar with sequels in addition to clothing…
After Laura Brodda had a nice chat with Jauch and used up all her jokes, she got this question for 125,000 euros: “Which cult movie has a total of four sequels?”
The usual four possible answers were as follows:
- A: “Kevin – Home Alone”
- B: “Pulp Fiction”
- C: “Forest Gump”
- B: “Basic Instinct”
Would you have known the correct answer right away?
Does “Pulp Fiction 2” exist or not?
As a regular FILMSTARTS reader, you should already know the answer – although it may not be that simple after all…
Of course you can do that first “Pulp Fiction” to rule out. Quentin Tarantino would probably rather give himself a bullet than allow a “Pulp Fiction 2” without his participation. In the years following the cult classic’s theatrical release, the “Inglourious Basterds” director occasionally mentioned very loose ideas for a sequel, but nothing concrete ever materialized.
Also a sequel “Forest Gump” is kind of nonsense. Though you should never say never – after all, a Bollywood remake called “Laal Singh Chaddha” was released just last year, and no one seriously expected that:
Kevin is always home alone
To the erotic psychological thriller “Basic Instinct” However, there is a belated sequel that came out in 2006 starring Sharon Stone but without Michael Douglas. “Basic Instinct – New Game for Catherine Tramell” failed so badly with critics and audiences that no one seriously thought about recording a third part after that.
Incidentally, the candidate himself decided to leave at this point – and continued to do so afterwards called the correct answer: “Kevin – Home Alone”. The comedy starring Macaulay Culkin as a burglar fear came to German cinemas in 1991 and was continued in 1992 with “Kevin – Alone in New York”. Much less well known are 1997’s “Home Alone” (with a different main character, but similar concept), 2002’s “Kevin – Alone Against All” (again with Kevin, but of course no longer with Macaulay Culkin) and “Home Alone: The Christmas Coup”, a repeat of 2012.
In 2021, “Kevin – Home Alone” was also relaunched for Disney+ under the title “Not Home Alone Again”. But that was not taken into account in this question…
