In the past, when talking about Stephen King movies, you always had to talk about scary movies – and not in a good way. Because the majority of directors failed to pare down King’s templates to their horror aspect instead of paying attention to the psychological depth. However, Mike Flanagan (“Haunted Hill House”) is one of the filmmakers King seems to have grown into.
Not only did his “The Game”, which appeared on Netflix, prove even more convincingly, his “Doctor Sleeps Awakening”, with which Mike Flanagan accomplished the daring task of giving Stanley Kubrick’s “Shining” a worthy sequel. The fact that Flanagan will also provide the film adaptation of King’s mammoth work “The Dark Tower” in the future gives us hope.
But before that happens, Flanagan tackles another Stephen King topic: the short story The Life Of Chuck (aka The Life Of Chuck), found in the 2020 novella collection, Bloody News. But that’s not the only good news about the project. The cast of the film is also more than impressive!
What awaits us in “Chuck’s Life”
As previously confirmed, Star Wars legend Mark Hamill and Marvel villain Tom Hiddleston (Loki) will star in Chuck’s Life. Mike Flanagan previously collaborated with Mark Hamill on the Netflix series The Fall Of The House Of Usher, which will be released later this year. This probably indicates that the collaboration between the two has been quite fruitful.
Chuck’s Life, meanwhile, consists of three stories, all of which are connected and tell Charles Krantz’s biography in reverse, starting with his death from a brain tumor at age 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house. house. The businessman Charles, who is at the center of the action, realizes in the course of his life that the whole world is collapsing around him – and he plays a major role in this.
Tom Hiddleston plays Charles Krantz, while Mark Hamill plays his grandfather Albie. Mike Flanagan not only directed this, but also – as usual – wrote the screenplay. It is said that “The Life Of Chuck” is tonally based on “Stand By Me”, “The Convicts”, and “The Green Mile”, three of the greatest Stephen King movies of all time.
