An appearance by Darth Vader in the main story of The Mandalorian, of course, makes no sense. Finally, the Disney Plus series stars Pedro Pascal as the New Republic begins, when the dark Sith Lord is dead and now reunited with the light side of power as Anakin Skywalker. Over the course of the third season, however, there’s a detailed flashback that finally tells us how Grogu survived Order 66, the order to kill all Jedi as well as youths. And here a Vader performance would have been conceivable.
After all, we know that Darth Vader himself killed many youngsters in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where Grogu was, during Order 66. So it would have made sense for Vader to show up here. Of course, he wouldn’t have appeared in his iconic armorbut Hayden Christensen should have gotten back into the role.
After all, the Sith Lord, once known as Anakin Skywalker, has already received his new name from Darth Sidious/Palpatine and is this new person on the dark side of the Force. But he has not yet confronted Obi-Wan on Mustafar who mutilates him. But either way, it was decided against what Dave Filoni is now interviewing also reasoned.
Vader would have overshadowed Grogu’s story
Filoni revealed to the magazine that he had been considering such a Vader appearance with his co-creator of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau. After all, it is her job to go through all the possibilities. But in the end we decided otherwise.
“You have to be very careful how you use these characters. It would be a very special moment if we had. “We wanted Grogu to have his own story!”
If Vader had appeared at the time, it probably would have completely overshadowed Grogu’s backstory story. Plus, of course, it would have been much more difficult to describe how the Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, embodied by Ahmed Best, helps the youth escape without harming Vader’s position as one of the most powerful users of the Force. It’s easier to show Beq fighting some clone troopers.
Anakin Skywalker and Grogu know each other well
Nevertheless, it’s possible there will be an appearance from at least Anakin Skywalker in the future. So Filoni points across also that Grogu and Anakin most likely know each other. It’s also very interesting to think about the fact that they might have been close. After all, both were in the Jedi Temple in Coruscant at the same time. Even when Anakin was a little boy, Grogu, who was born about ten years before the events of “Episode I – Attack of the Clones”, was already there.
Will Grogu’s past with at least Anakin Skywalker come into play again in the future? Appearances at times during Grogu’s time in the Jedi Temple would be just as conceivable here as a later conversation with Anakin’s power spirit. Maybe that won’t happen in “The Mandalorian‘, but it is to be expected that sooner or later Grogu will also play a bigger role in other projects such as films and certainly books.
