Half of Switzerland wants you to dance

Compagnie BewegGrund from Bern showcases an unusual pas-de-deux: professional dancer Jürg Koch and passionate dancer born with trisomy 21, Lukas Schwander, meet in this production that won the Swiss Performing Arts 2022 Award. The production, which will take a short tour from Geneva to Bern, via Freiburg and other cities in western Switzerland, during the dance festival, is called “ume-ume”.

“umer-ume” is one of a dozen professional formations that will dance and perform across Switzerland, from Aarau to Zurich, from Biel to Yverdon-les-Bains, and from Bellinzona to Poschiavo.

Various meetings and events

There are countless other formations that will also appear in the respective theatres, squares and streets of the participating cities. In Basel, for example, there will be about twenty performances, workshops and hands-on events by different companies – St. Including projects with students from the Johann school or a “Tea Dance Ü70” with earlier periods.

In Bern, too, there will be a grand performance by schoolchildren, among many other events: 123 school classes from all over the canton took part in the grand choir for the World Dance Day, May 12. It can be seen on Münsterplatz from 10:00 to 12:00.

The dance festival was brought to life in Zurich by the Swiss Reso Dance Network in 2006 and has since spread all over Switzerland with the help of local sponsors. According to the organizers, around 4000 participants and 200 partner institutions support the program. In 2022, the dance festival brought together more than 60,000 attendees.
