Every week we browse the new releases on Netflix and find the most exciting films and series for you that are worth tuning into. The next seven days will be all about themes and there will be something for just about every taste. If you’re looking for royal necessities after “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” you’ll find them, and if you’ve always wanted to see Jennifer Lopez as a badass professional assassin, you should already have popcorn and drinks before a movie evening.
Here are the Netflix highlights for the week from May 8 to 14, 2023, sorted by day of the week:
Monday: What for the little ones
The week kicks off with a new season of “Spirit Rangers”! Junior Park Ranger Kodi and his animal and human companions must once again protect their national park. How good that they have magical abilities and can turn into ghosts. So no bad guys stand a chance. Spirit Rangers has been airing since 2022 and Season 2 is out today.
Tuesday: time for a classic
There’s still something new announced for Netflix today that we think is a must-see. Finally time to work through the watchlist!
Wednesday: Royals or Kangaroos?
Much has been written and researched about Cleopatra, and yet the famously powerful queen is alien to most people. Hollywood could probably tell hundreds of stories about it! Netflix dedicates the documentary “Queen Cleopatra” a whole series of the unapproachable ruler and takes a closer look at what this woman wanted and how she fought for it. Incidentally, the project caused a lot of discussion beforehand, because those responsible for it, including producer Jada Pinkett Smith, decided to cast the main character in dramatic game scenes with a black actress.
Those not interested in royals might have a heart for hopping furry friends. Here comes the film adaptation of the novel “The Kangaroo Chronicles” but just right. Marc-Uwe Kling’s books are selling like hot cakes – so it’s no wonder the cheeky marsupial has hit the big screen.
Thursday: A princess comes of age
On May 6, 2023, Prince Charles officially became King Charles and it is possible that not only Great Britain sat in front of the television that day. Anyone who can’t get enough of the European royal family should take a look “Royalteen: Princess Margrethe” to throw. It tells the coming-of-age story of the fictional Norwegian princess Margrethe – including trials and tribulations and a complicated love life.
Friday: JLo as a Professional Killer!
Today it’s time for popcorn: “The mother” from “Mulan” director Niki Caro is on Netflix! Actress and singer Jennifer Lopez has slipped into the lead role and stars such as Joseph Fiennes and Gael García Bernal play alongside her. But not only the cast is interesting, the story sounds really exciting:
The character of Lopez (her name is not given) works as a stone-cold professional assassin and left her daughter Zoe (Lucy Paez) after she was born – a life with a child was unthinkable for her. However, when she learns years later that Zoe is in danger, her mother wants to do everything she can to protect her. Action alarm – according to the trailer with titles like the “John Wick” series as a model!
Weekend: watchlist or movie night?
There probably won’t be much news happening on Netflix this weekend. So we recommend that you finish your watch list or just go to the cinema. There is certainly always something to see there.
