He King Charles III raised a glass to toast Prince Harry’s son Archie’s fourth birthday at Buckingham Palace on Saturday in an emotional tribute to the grandson he barely saw.
Despite the coolness of Harry, who was on a plane back to the States just hours after his father’s coronation, an emotional Carlos made sure to mention his absent grandchildren as well as those present on his big day. .
The touching moment took place at a private family gathering at the palace following his coronation at Westminster Abbey and his appearance on the balcony with Queen Camilla.
It turned out that he was politely invited Harry to join the family lunch, but decided to return to California to celebrate Archie’s birthday.
His wife Meghan was with Archie and Lilibet and reportedly hosted a small party for family and friends.
A source close to them revealed that while most members of the royal family were “relieved” that Harry wasn’t joining them, the 74-year-old king seemed “quite disappointed that he didn’t stay”.
“It was really a very sweet moment,” the source said.
After that, most of the family went to windsor castlewhere they hosted a private family party with drinks.
A private family gathering was also held after the official reception ahead of the coronation at Buckingham Palace.
The king traveled to Highgrove, his beloved country house in Gloucestershirefor a little rest and relaxation after such a physically and emotionally exhausting day.
