Carlos III crowned king: ‘God save the king’

Upon entering the Westminster Abbey of Carlos III. it received the royal family and special guests.

Carlos III was crowned king United Kingdom in a solemn ceremony held in Westminster Abbey, in the heart of the British capital.

The procession arrived four minutes earlier than agreed, with the brand new royals waiting in a carriage until 10:53 local time to enter Westminster Abbey. The abbey bells are ringing.

King Carlos III knelt before the altar and prayed: “God of compassion and mercy, whose Son was not sent to be served, but to serve, grant me the grace that in your service I may find perfect freedom, and in that freedom the knowledge of your truth”. He said.

And continued: “May I be a blessing to all your children, of every faith and belief, so that together we may discover the paths of gentleness and be guided by the paths of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen”.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, told Charles III. “We crown a king to serve.”

Justin Welby He said that “Jesus Christ was not anointed to be served, but to serve”.

“The weight of the task you have been given today, Your Majesties, can only be borne by them God’s spirit“, he added.

The archbishop also spoke about the king’s priorities as monarch, including “how we nurture and encourage young people, in the conservation of the natural world”.

In the most important moment of this formal act, Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, he placed on the head of Carlos III the sumptuous crown of San Eduardo, from the 17th century.

After placing the crown on him, the archbishop shouted to the crowd “God save the king”, after which the trumpets sounded.

Seated on the oak St Edward’s Chair, believed to be the oldest piece of furniture in the United Kingdom and set on a medieval mosaic floor, Charles III was crowned after receiving various royal insignia, symbolizing the responsibilities of the British head of state until his death.

The king received a ruler’s orb that symbolized the world; a scepter with a cross, representing Christendom; and the scepter of the dove, a symbol of the spiritual role of the monarch.

Dressed in a golden mantle, the primate of the Church of England presented the king with a white glove of power.

Finally Welby put a wreath of St. Edward, made of gold and decorated with rubies, amethysts, sapphires, garnets and topazes, the only time in his life that the monarch will wear it.

Previously, the monarch was anointed with oil consecrated by the archbishop Canterbury, the most solemn religious ceremony of the coronation liturgy, which requires the monarch to be temporarily hidden from the public.

The ruler was covered by a cloth panel with embroidered angel motifs and a tree with 56 leaves representing each of the countries of the British Commonwealth of Nations, blessed in the Royal Chapel of the Palace of St. James a week ago.
