‘Me Porto Bonito’, ‘Song of the Year’, according to ASCAP

“Me Porto Bonito”, a song performed by Puerto Rican urban artists Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone, was chosen as the song of the year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

This was announced this Wednesday by the music entity in San Juan, where it held its annual edition, the first in the capital of Puerto Rico in three years.

“I’m behaving nicely”which is included in the latest disc of Bad Bunny“Un Verano Sin Ti” is also co-written by a Puerto Rican Master Joeone of the pioneers of reggaeton and ASCAP composer.

The song reached first place on Latin Airplayranked #6 on YouTube’s Top Songs of 2022 and has been streamed nearly 1.3 billion times on Spotify.

Publishers El Kabecilla, RSM Publishing and Universal Music Publishing Group also received the award ASCAP Award as editors of the magazine “Me Porto Bonito”.

On the other hand, the Colombian artist keithyn received the composer of the year award for his works “Provence”also interpreted by Colombian Karola G, and “Te Felicito”, interpreted by Shakira and Rau Alejandro.

Both songs were hits multiplatinum in the United States and reached the Top 10 on the “Billboard Hot Latin Songs” chart.

“It’s true, very grateful, very proud, satisfied and happy. Another achievement I hope to have in my career,” Keityn Mauricio Cruz Moreno, the writer’s first name, told EFE on the red carpet of the event after receiving the award .

Keityn admitted that he doesn’t know what inspired him to compose both award-winning songsalthough he accepted that he only did them “because I was having fun”, and said he was proud of it Shakira and Carol G.whom he described as “the two queens of my country”.

Keityn also shared that “I congratulate you” was created in the music camp, while “Provenza” was created in recording studio by the Colombian producer Ovy On The Drums.

At first he thought that “Provenza” was not to his liking, so Karol G changed the lyrics a bit and they risked the theme becoming his next single.

“Those who don’t take risks don’t win, and I won,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Universal Music Publishing Music Group won Publisher of the Year for its hits “Después de la playa,” “Efecto,” “La Corriente,” “Me Porto Bonito,” “Moscow Mule,” “Neverita,” ” Cute Eyes”, “Tarot”, “Tití asked me” and “Un Ratito”.

All these songs are part of Bad Bunny’s album, “Un Verano Sin Ti”.

Other 2023 ASCAP award winning composers include Daddy Yankee for “Remix”, “Jhayco” for “Sensual Bebé”, Marc Anthony for “Mala”, Marco Antonio Solís for “Si Te Pudiera Mentir”, Gale for “Ley Seca” and Lin-Manuel Miranda for “Dos Oruguitas”, which He was included in the movie “Encanto” and portrayed by Sebastián Yatra.

The ASCAP Award honors composers and editors the most popular songs of Latin American music in 2022.

ASCAP is a membership organization with over 900,000 authorscomposers, publishers and represents world-renowned music creators.

In 2022, ASCAP reported a high financial record with results of $1.522 million in revenue and $1.388 million in royalty distribution for payouts to its members.
