In “King of Queens” many actors managed to deliver their best comedic performances. Kevin James and Leah Remini embodied the most iconic roles of their careers and reunited years later in a similar format with Kevin Can Wait. Jerry Stiller has created one of the funniest characters ever as Arthur Spooner. But Patton Oswalt also set a milestone for his future comedic career as Spence.
Spence, who is often attributed the image of the eccentric within the circle of friends, is precisely for that reason one of the most beautiful characters. Today we bring you one of the most absurd Easter Eggs in the series that will make you love the character even more. It can be found in the 19th episode of Season 8 called “Crisis on Order”. In the episode, not only do you see Doug faking a midlife crisis, you also see the group of friends going on an adventure in an amusement park.
Spence stands still
In the opening scene of the episode, which lasts about three minutes, Doug celebrates his 40th birthday. His loved ones should not be missing: Danny, Carrie, Deacon, Arthur and co. Of course Spence is there too, but he’s acting strange. If you pay close attention, you will notice that he does not move during the three minutes. He stands still and stiff in the middle of the living room. This looks very whimsical because it looks like actor Patton Oswalt is struggling to maintain his attitude.
The story behind it shows how much fun the creators of “King of Queens” must have had on set. In an interview in the “The Howard Stern ShowOswalt explains that the show’s writers were stoners and had a penchant for jokes. So they came up with the idea that it would be funny to have Spencer standing around completely motionless in an opening scene. They wanted to see if viewers would notice. Well, it looks like it’s been noticed!
